Sweet is a nice guy. Of course his comments are going to be nice.
Only a handful of people have ever gotten along with Tom Scholz for any length of time and I assume that is because they have their heads up his ass so they can be in Boston. I seriously doubt they actually like him. In Stryper, Sweet is the main man and his opinions are golden. In Boston, he had to answer to the man like everyone else does and he was given his parts like an employee.
Not to mention his voice just doesn't have the right tone for the Boston songs. Sure he did a good job by "regular fan" standards. But for me, I am a Brad Delp FREAK and as much as I would have loved for Michael to blow me away doing those parts, he just didn't...
Fran Cosmo is the closest I have heard to hitting Brad Delp's perfect vocal tone and even he is still standing in the shadow.
The Home Depot guy also sounds way closer to Brad's tone than Michael did. Michael used his vibratto too much and he made Boston songs sound like Stryper songs. If it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't want to hear Brad Delp try to pull off Stryper songs either because he just wouldn't be able to get the power behind the notes like Michael does for those songs. They are two completely different types of singers. Brad has angelic vocals and Michael has power vocals...
Michael would sound GREAT singing Dennis DeYoung songs though! They have a very similar tone! Heck, I wish he would join Styx and they could fire that no talent JY and reduce LG down to just a keyboardist so Michael could sing the Dennis songs and play JY's guitar parts better than he ever thought about playing them!!
