Bands are doing this to have control over their own songs (ie; get paid). It's the reason Firehouse, Scorpions, Def Leppard, and others have done it. To this day, their respective labels own the original recordings and, as such, have control over their distribution and how much they pay the band. By making NEW recordings of those songs, they have more direct control.

Stryper are starting a new album of all new material in February.
