It's not being assumed, Troy. You're putting all of your argument into the fact that you can't hear Elvis in other singers once he broke. But Elvis is more than what's heard.
He changed the mainstream attitude toward music generally and he opened doors for the rock and roll music that followed.
He may not have been the first doing it, but he was the first that broke worldwide. It's always been that the true, real, musical pioneers aren't usually the catalyst. There were punk bands before The Sex Pistols....but The Pistols broke down the barriers and the flood followed.
Nirvana weren't the first band to play 'grunge'....but they were the band that blew the mainstream to pieces.
Elvis, like it or not, was a musical AND cultural phenomenon. It's also difficult to appreciate now just what an impact he had back then. The world was a vastly different place. Elvis, and his followers, gave youth a voice. The tide was turning, but it was Elvis that rode the wave.......and I'm not a fan.
