Opening a door for someone and influencing someone are two different things.
In my original argument, I said he didn't completely influence a specific genre like some of the others mentioned. And he didn't IMO.
Elvis took his influence from others. He may have inspired people to be rock stars and such but you don't have people going "i wanted to be a southern gospel singer like Elvis"....I wanna sing the blues like "elvis".
Take someone like the beatles, they had a lot of imitators
Stones, the same
Eddie Van halen, the same
Sex Pistols, the same
Take any of those people and I can easily name a ton of imitators or people they influenced.
I can't do that with Elvis, I can tell you people that liked him, but I don't hear or see a lot of Elvis in other artists other than the occasional Ricky Martin or something like that. haha.
