I'll second Guy Pratts My Bass and Other Animals - a funny look at being in and around the biggest musicians (Pink Floyd, Coverdale Page, Madonna, Bryan Ferry)
As for biogs - Mick Walls Axl Rose and Led Zep books are very good, as it Mark Putterfords Phil Lynott: The Rocker. Peter Dogett's There's A Riot Going On is an interesting look at the (supposedly) revolutionary bands of the 60s. Charles Shaar Murrays Crosstown Traffic is also intersting - mainly a Hendrix biography but tries to put him into context.
Just finished Andy Kershaws book (No Off Switch): funny and honest account of his rise from dealing with the likes of Bob Geldoff and painting the Rolling Stones fence to fellow Radio 1 DJs and bosses, then onto finding music and reporting from far flung places.
