Perfection can be very cold sounding. Apart from the 3 Ac/DC albums and Foreigner's "4", I can't say that I am a fan of his productions. It has not warmth. It is so white. There is no blackness, no soul in his work. The music doesn't breath and is slick to the extreme. Even on the AC/DC stuff he did, the sheer power of the band is tamed.
His work with Bryan Adams, DL and Shania Twain sound to my ears way too perfect, but mostly too cold. It takes the life out of the performances.
Even a band like Toto, that is very slick and polished, never let the production make their music cold. There was always a certain warmth that I do not hear or feel in Mutt's work.
There is no discussion he is a genius. But for my money, I'd take Keith Olsen any time of the day.
