Instead of factories blowing dangerous smoke and ash into the sky have them turn there power source into a Marijuana based system thus the smoke and ash that enter the air would be so different. Imagine after the smoke is in the air people would be talking about things like "Hey man are you afraid of the fiscal cliff?"...."Na F**k it" or a guy goes to rob someone ..."Hey give me your money" the victim says "I got money but do you want to share a 24 piece bucket at KFC?"
