I wish I knew. One guess is something that Laurent said about the US being so diverse in cultures. I can only speak on this from my childhood though many here would agree. I grew up people were more like minded in that they went to work, kept there property clean and sent kids off to school and made sure they stayed out of trouble. If lived a more peaceful place there would be no need for gun debate as they would not be needed. Sadly here if someone enters your home while your there it's not going to be good. You may precive this as living in fear but its not a thought of fear Just a way of life
