Exactly! I think that is the main reason for me liking GrooGrux as much as I do. It's accessible, but not commercial in the way that they lose originality and it still sounds very much DMB.
As I've already stated, Groo Grux was the first album that really clicked with me and I have since gone back listening to all the earlier albums and found gems here and there. Before These Crowded Street is way too hard for me to digest.
All these middle eastern influences annoys me a little and I don't think the songs are effective enough (lack the structure and directness I need)...if that makes sense. :-)
Love the more mellow and moody song on that album though, like "The Dreaming Tree" and "Spoon"....and I quite like "Simon" too. ;-)
