I just think these are the best collection of songs Jimi has had to sing for a long time. I didn't buy WET or any other Martesson albums, the soundbites didn't grab me enough, so I haven't got Niv's problem to contend with.
Jimi's recorded voice is one of the defining components of what melodic rock is all about, but the whole balance and power of the song has to match his input, or it just sounds wrong to me. Its similar to how Rob Thomas' voice doesn't work on the new Matchbox Twenty album, his voice is so much bigger than the mostly weedy songs and backing instrumentation.
I felt the songs on Crossroads Moment let Jimi's voice down, he's not going to turn every verse and chorus into gold, but when the combination clicks as I feel it does on this latest album, there are very few better.
