Gary, most of the RAM heaviness is due to 'swapping'. SSD will zap that overhead! You want your AV to zip through your files quickly and get the job done. SSD will be miles quicker if you can justify the cost (SSD's are cheap as chips these days).

Personally I use 'avast' on a Windows box, but typically use Mac as it's just a nicer quicker OS, but that's my preference.
