I can easily understand how they can pass people by. Darren Wharton doesn't have a great voice, for staters. He can sing, of course, but he tends to whisper and there's no strength or depth. He does make up for the deficiencies with the feeling he conveys however.

I like the band, but only the first 2 albums and, even then, OOTS is the only one I can play repeatedly. The songs on that are outstanding. Blood From Stone 'sounds' amazing, but it is VERY generic.
