Nothing comes close the rock bottom trash that was Metal Edge's Highschool yearbook and childhood photos segment back in the day, terrible!
Personally by the end of the 90's found both Kerrang and Metal Hammer suffered some. Not always, there's still some good reads to be had but not the consistancy that once was. If I had to make the call I'd say come the end of the 90's things weren't so hot like before.
What really gripes me though is the constant re-tellings of a bands history instead of discussing a new release or the same old stories for the hell of it (in particular looking at you Classic Rock)... Not just them though for example most the last couple MH articles relating to the new Paradise Lost album STILL felt the need to go on about the HOST eras and whatnot, or the RETURN TO FORM that was (insert any of the previous few albums here), or yet again the merits of Paradise Lost's gothic metal etc, instead of focusing exclusively on the latest album (Tragic Idol in this instance).
I get where things headed, and online isn't always yer friend, but to answer the thread as fans we'd have little to lose by asking the hard questions. As professional writers I think more tact would be required for career longevity even if there's decent blogs and sites out there ;) trying at least to push some of these boundaries for us ;)
