Yes, you can. My 20yr old son loves many of the old rock/metal bands I grew up listening to, and we have very similar tastes with current bands. He did get a little lost when he was around 8 years old and was listening to some mainstream pop music, but that didn't last long. He has the same diverse taste in music that I do, and that has to be because he was exposed to such a diverse selection of music since the day he was born.
