Similarity does not equal plagarism

I think Paul's being a little over-dramatic by saying Journey should SUE The Sign. If that's the case, there's going to be a lot of rich lawyers getting a whole lot richer. Is this good for the scene? Similarity is one thing, but in order to win a court case, the burden of proof has to be whether or not The Sign willfully plagarized Journey's songs. Plagarism is a lot more precise than say, the guitar solo in Strangeways' "Only a Fool" sounding like Neal's in "Send Her My Love". Maybe Def Leppard owes Steve Plunkett a few bucks because "Promises" (from "Euphoria") sounds frighteningly similar to "So Mysterious" off his 1991 "My Attitude" CD. Then there's the case of Frontline vs. Journey, exhibit A being "On the Run" which borrows heavily from Journey's "Positive Touch".

We should make a list of songs that sound similar to others. That could help unearth some AOR gems. At the very least, it's a much more positive way to discuss song similarities and it keeps those greedy lawyers from getting any ideas.
