Not my cup of tea, but the stuff that was coming out of the rap scene around 1989 - 1992 was really cutting edge and has stood the test of time and kept a stronger legacy than what "our" genre was doing in that time frame.
Look at N.W.A and Run-D.M.C and how regarded they are across the board...
Then look at what this genre was doing and what came out of it in that time frame that's still as regarded?
One of the biggest ones would be Aerosmith's resurrection, and how did they kick start that? By collaborating with a hot new rap group...
