Paul Gilbert and Racer X

I've recently been listening to a promo copy of Paul Gilbert's new CD 'Vibrato'. It's an excellent, eclectic listen and a real artistic statement. Fans of his shred based hard rock repertoire might not like it so much as it's a mix of funk, soul, blues, gospel and jazz - with impeccable musicianship throughout and fantastic guitar playing. Natch.

I haven't listened to a massive amount of Gilbert in the past. I'm a casual Mr Big fan and like the album he did with Freddie Nelson (Mercury?) too, but I was wondering about Racer X. I'm quite ignorant about what style of rock music they play and I'm not even 100% sure if they're an instrumental band or if they have a vocalist or are a mixture of both. What is their best album to start with? Advice appreciated.
