basically a copy of what I said below... Here's a simple fix. Deduct about 10% from what's marked and you are a) close to Andrew's old rating system before the numbers started increasing.....and b) leaving an edge at the top for the truly transcending release if and when.
then you end up with something like this....
below 70%....needs work in multiple areas.
70%.....good points and some areas for improvement (aka average)
70-80%....getting better. "Fillers" decrease. Pretty good overall.
80-85%....good songs throughout. Maybe not classics, but solid songs from beginning to end. No fillers. Nothing to be ashamed of here. This is a solid recommendation.
85-95%....very good songs. Potentially some classics. Likely to have multiple entries in the band's "best of" list. Expect rave reviews for a cd like this.
95%+....classic. Genre transcending release.
As you might notice, it gets more difficult the closer you get to that perfect score. Every song becomes more important to the whole.
As far as production goes, that rating can deduct from a score, but should NEVER add to it. The best production will never help a mediocre song, but a bad production can hurt a good song.
just my thoughts on the matter...
