I tend to prefer the newer JH too. I bought Hellava Time and 4 at the same time and while I really like some of the songs from 4, HT hits the spot more often for me. Even at the time of release I remember hearing their cover of Rainbow's Stone Cold - a song I love, bTW - and thinking "what's the point"?

The harder JH since H.T. hasn't always done it for me but they certainly have a few decent melodic metal numbers and I'll check the newbie for sure.
