He was talking about how Pyro never was #1 because of Thriller. Said something to the affect that Jackson had the advantage of being able to sell to blacks and whites whereas not a lot of black people bought Def Leppard records. Perhaps factually accurate but not a very PC(politically correct) thing to say here in the States.
