What you state is exactly the market at work. When there are high prices consumers substitute towards cheaper priced alternatives, even if those alternatives are imperfect. To the extent your feeling is shared by others, we can expect prices to come down. I just don't think it will- people recognize they are buying a very specialized product.

Other things that might drive down the price of vinyl is improvements in technology, entry of new firms into the business, lower prices for turntables, etc.

But I don't think any of these will be substantive enough to drive vinyl prices down over the next 10 years.
