NOW you're talkin' my language here! LOL This is THEE band that hooked me completely way back in the day. Farner's soaring, soulfull & crystal clear tenor,Don Brewer's incredible drumming skills aND great voice his ownself, and Mel Schacher's awesome bottom end bass riffing! They were never a radio friendly band i the early years, but those were the GREAT years! America's numero uno concert draw & our own 'power trio'. They sold out Shea Stadium WAY faster than The Beatles--only took them 3 days. I believe it took the FAb four a couple weeks or so. Still--radio did NOT catch on to their bluesy hard rock style until they became more accessable with We're An American Band. From there--they kept writing more commercially, and added the ingfamous covers along the way (Locomotion,Some Kinda Wonderful) that were HUGE hits. But they sold their souls for commercialism, and by then were a pretty different band musically. Only later on did I 'rediscover' the magic of those later albums when they got remastered on cd. Still can't take much of the mentioned 'All The Girls...' album. Yuk--WAY too commercial,IMO. but Good Singin' Good Playin' is a great call. TRy their final one as well (before reformed ones anyway, which are just so-so),titled 'Born To Die'. Damn fine album indeed, and sounds killer remastered! but I'd recommend ANY of the early albums; On Time, Grand Funk (Red Album), Closer To Home,Survival, and E Pluribus Funk. Farner's voice is undenyably one of the very best rock voices eVER recorded. And the guy was THEE precursor of any & every live rock performer that puts on a great show--he was 'THe Man' in concert! cheers, T
