I think they're a great idea, but I would have to be a hardcore fanboy of a band before i'd think about contributing to such a scheme. And even then, there's no way i'd stump up more than the cost of buying the finished product. Welsh band 'The Blackout' used a similar scheme to raise £40,000 to finance their 3rd album. They took donations, but also auctioned off things like 'Meet & Greets' and the band coming to your house and playing a set in your living room.

I will be seriously surprised if Vixen come anywhere close to their intended target. I thing they will be lucky to reach $10,000.
