Grunge was hard rock without melody,basically. Downtuned chord progressions and vERY depressing lyrically as well as audibly. Couldn't grasp it and never will. Was it necessary? I'll agree the industry started hyping alot of less than stellar melrock/glam bands. So something DId have to give way eventually. Too bad so many great acts got buried in the fray just because of the grunge movement,tho. The worst thing is--good ol' melodic rock never made a comeback,as radio stations faded into 'classic rock only' mode. *Sigh* T
