I pretty much agree with Surfpunk on everything. Yeah Garry Brandon isn`t the greatest vocalist but I think he sings his songs within his own vocal limitations. Dennis Churchill has an excellent voice with a lot of range and is definately an underrated vocalist. I don`t think the first albums sound is as bad as Surfpunk say`s it is. I`ve heard a lot worse. This album is in no way overrated as somebody in an earlier post implied. I`ve only been a fan for about 3 months and in that time I have to say the first White Sister album has become one of (if not the) my alltime favorites.
I wouldn`t say the hard to find second disc totally sucks. The production is excellent and the cd sounds good even by today`s standards I think. Dennis Churchill really steps out and sings the shit out of all the tunes. I think 'A Place in the Heart' is an excellent tune to open the album. There are rocker`s like 'April',
'Dancin` on Midnight' and I even like 'Until it Hurt`s' which features some kick ass drumming by Richard Wright. 'Save Me Tonight' is an excellently sung, passion filled ballad which should have been a hit on the charts. It`s definately a more commercial cd. It seems a lot of rock bands in 86` were leaning towards that direction so you really can`t blame them too much. It does IMHO have too many cover tunes and corny type songs but I`d still recommend it if you can find it for a reasonable price that is.
I haven`t heard the Tattoo Rodeo stuff so I can`t comment on it. I really don`t like "Honkey Tonk" type rock but I am curious to hear Dennis Churchill`s vocals. The guy really can sing.
