Dave Mason??

Bob Dylan wrote the song, and then it was covered almost immediately by Jimi Hendrix. Actually, I believe Mason may have played the acoustic guitar on the Hendrix version, but I'm unaware of him doing it himself.

And of course, the song has since been covered by the Grateful Dead, U2, the Indigo Girls, and God knows who else....

As for the "satanic verse" in Stairway to Heaven, it supposedly says....

"Here's to my sweet Satan
no other made a path
for it makes me sad
whose power is Satan"

Truth is, it was just a fluke, and no deliberate backmasking was done.

Can I prove it? You bet.

Get a copy of Pat Boone's awful cover of the song and play it backwards. You'll hear the same gibberish, which could be interpreted as the verse above. Obviouisly Pat Boone, a religious right televangelist, isn't going to be paying tribute to the Devil.

Or would he................
