Unless I'm confusing this event with another one, I read an interview with RJD in which he explained the story. The story he told revolved around the guys having contacted an ancient spirit (or demon) known as Baal. Apparently, this spirit was extremely malicious and caused many, many problems for everyone when Rainbow was in the studio recording "Long Live Rock and Roll" in the late '70s. If you read the liner notes for that album, it even states in the "Thank You" section, "No thanks to Baal." Strange, but true. Hope this has helped.
