Actually, I get it.
Retirement is something I am HUGELY looking forward to and will do as soon as I possibly can. Not because I want to cease all activity, become a couch potato, and die within three months. Quite the opposite, really. There are just so many things that I'd like to do that have nothing to do with my current job and that I will never be able to accomplish as long as I am working at my current job.
I figure it's gotta be the same for musicians. The cycle of writing, recording, rehearsing, touring, recovering, etc. has been pretty much all Mr. Schenker and company have known for most of their lifetimes. At some point, there's got to come a time where they just want to travel (not on a tour bus or jumping from hotel to hotel) and/or pursue other interests.
I dunno, like I said, I totally get it. I'm sure that the music biz gets into your blood, but I'm still surprised that more musicians don't eventually just hang up their guitars and mikes and enjoy some of the other cool stuff life has to offer. There have to be other rushes to replace the rush of being up on stage, and just imagine the fun one could have trying to discover them...
