Hey, let's get a good non-Journey or VH thread going here!!!
Just curious what everyone is currently burning up their CD players with!?! New or old doesn't matter as long as you are really into it!!!

well, you might get a little Journey in mine, but I can't help that! lol. In no particular order....

1. Journey - Arrival.....well, IMO, it's just that good. Definitely some classic stuff here even if a bit overloaded with ballads. Lose 2 songs (Kiss Me Softly, I'm not That Way) and add the Japan bonus song and the extended version of "Remember Me" in with a slightly reworked track order and the tempo would improve considerably.

2. Fiore - Body Electric......just got this one recently and I have to say it's growing on me a lot. The more I listen, the more I find to like. Wish they would do a follow-up to this.

3. Survivor - Premonition ....... I know I'm not in the majority by saying that Vital Signs is far from my favorite Survivor cd, but this one had everything VS was missing. Nice driving guitar edge and enough hard rockers to keep it from slipping into anonymous pop-dom like VS had the tendency to at times (ie "Popular Girl"?!?? yuck...). Songs like Chevy Nights, Summer Nights (the full version) and Runway Lights are, for me, some of the best songs they ever did. Dave Bickler was just in great form here as this was perfect material for his voice. Wonderful mixture of hard rock and mid-tempo and various degrees in between with each song keeping it's separate identity.

4. Jim Peterik & World Stage .... well, since Survivor was mentioned last, I decided I better include this one also. It's not Survivor, more a midwestern pop rock, but who am I to complain when it's this good?!?!? Definitely a few soon-to-be-classic songs on here.

5. Fair Warning - Live & More .... live recording from the Go! tour. Just incredible here and I have to say that for the most part, I prefer the live songs to the studio versions. FW is going to have a really hard time if they try to replace Tommy Heart. I wish I had gotten the chance to see them live....

6. Magnum - Wings of Heaven ... One of my all-time favorite cds here, and it just keeps getting better the more I listen to it as the subtle details come out to light. "Days of No Trust" is the perfect opening song and the mixture of the slightly progressive/tempo-changing (Wild Swan, One Step Away) to the straight ahead rock (Days of No Trust, Pray for the Day), one mind-blowing ballad (It Must Have Been Love---really similar in tone to Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is" without copying it) to the fun pop material (Start Talking Love, Different Worlds) and the huge epic closer that may just be one of their best songs ever (Don't Wake the Lion). The US bonus song (Maybe Tonight) just adds to the quality with another huge sing-along chorus and evens progressive/pop mix so neither style overly dominates the cd while giving a huge variety to the songs. Bob Catley and the rest of the band are just incredible here, and the production just jumps out of the speakers giving the cd a real live feel.

7. Stuart Smith - Heaven & Earth .... I know this one has been raved about to death and it's not hard to see why. Extreme variety for one cd (hard rock to blues to classical and everything in between), but if you like a little blues, some top class aor and hard rock, a few haunting songs, great musician-ship (guitar!!) and some A class vocalists, it's hard to go wrong. It will be interesting to see what the new cd sounds like and whether he can top this. The 15 song version adds a few more great songs also and gives it a slightly more blues feel.

well, that's 7, I know....but who cares...lol Too much great music
Kevin
