You get it? Eddie has often opened his mouth and said things that he didn't really even mean at the time, let alone mean long term. Not that a lot of people don't do the same thing, but when you're Edward Van Halen, these things are written in print and quoted years later. The fact is that Eddie knows his days in rock n roll are numbered due to age and the physical health of Alex and himself. He doesn't want to go out with a failure like VD III. He wants to go out on top, and he knows there's only one way to do it..... With the lineup that put him there in the first place.
