"The most overrated singer in history is Michael Matijevic. People think he's so great just because he has a powerful voice. To me he is the Yngwie of singers. He has major talent but not a clue as to how to use it. He doesn't know that a well placed scream here and there in strategic spots in a song is much more impressive than just screaming through a whole song. Especially a love song like "Never Let You Go". Those two should form a band and call it 'Over The Top'. "
...See, personally, I don't think Michael is at all an over-rated vocalist. On the contrary, I think he's an extraordinarily talented vocalist. Yet, having said that, I freely admit I cannot stand to listen to him. If vocal talent can be defined as having a killer range and being able to sing with tons of power, then I don't think anyone can deny Michael's talent. But you're bang on when you use the phrase "over the top." Someone once posted on here and stated that his voice was like a runaway train, completely out of control. For me, that definition fits brilliantly. It's like he has no sense of when to use the gift he's been given. Kinda like a person who's never even seen a car before getting behind the wheel of a Porche: they'd have no idea of how traffic works, when to go fast, when to slow down, etc. That's Michael Matijevic. The guy has no clue (IMO, of course) when to shred and when to step back and use exercise some self-restraint. What a shame.
