Don,
I own Johnny's first disc as well. I agree with you 100%. It is a fine rock album, but it's also nothing we haven't heard a thousand times before. He sort of borrows heavily from Def Leppard and Bon Jovi and mixes it in with a bit of his own style. All in all, it's a great CD. I hesitate to say that it is as good as Shine On as I thought that was one of last year's finest albums. He has really grown as a songwriter and you can see the difference in the progression from the first album to the second. Earlier on this board, some people were commenting on Michael Morales. I would put both Lima discs over any of Morales' efforts. Johnny's songs seem to have more depth and substance, but still 'balls-out' rock. However, the two styles are relatively similar. Just my opinion.
Kris, I think you'll have no problem diggin' Johnny Lima's self-titled disc. If you liked Shine On, this is not to far removed from that.
My favorite tracks form JL debut: Rock 'N Roll River, Crazy, Another Lonely Day, and Never Gonna Let You Go.
