Hi Kris,

I own a copy of his first CD, and if you want opinions on it, here's mine:

Quite simply, I love it. I'd be the first one to admit that, not only are the lyrics incredibly cliche, but the songs are absolutely nothing original. On the contrary, pretty much every track on the album will probably remind you of something that you've heard before. And yet, as I've stated numerous times on this board in the past, that doesn't matter to me in the slightest. The songs on this album are so incredibly, infectiously catchy, and so totally '80s in their style, that whenever I put it on, I just feel like I'm taking a walk back through time to my high school days. I liked this album from the first time I heard it, and with every spin I've given it, it's done nothing but grow on me. If you shamelessly love '80s style MHR in the vein of Def Lep and Bon Jovi, then IMO you need to get a copy of this album! Unfortunately, I have not suggestions as to where you might find a copy, and I don't own a burner. I could tape it for ya while you're looking for a CD copy, though. Email me if you're interested. Hope this has helped.
Don

p.s. - I have to admit that Johnny is a friend/acquaintance of mine (ie., I've "met" him through the boards I post on), but I can say in all honesty that that has absolutely nothing to do with the opinion I have just shared. If I was less than impressed with his first album, I simply wouldn't have posted anything about it. I almost posted the other day when I read someone else posting a derogatory comment about Johnny and his music (I believe he stated that if the future of "our" music lies in the hands of the likes of Johnny, then we're in trouble), but because I really try to avoid flame wars, I decided to decline. The comment does leave me wondering, why, of all the other mediocre artists out there, Johnny was singled out. It may have been someone who knew Johnny visits this board trying to goad him into a scrap, I don't know. Maybe it really is someone who just does't appreciate Johnny's brand of straightforward, catchy, '80s-flavoured MHR, it's hard to say. But if you like the newest one, you really should try to get the first one.
