I don't see Tom Scholz as being a brilliant guitar PLAYER per se, but more a genius in creating and manipulating the sound. I.E. making one guitar sound like 10, making them sound like rockets, orchestras, etc, without a sampler or synthesizer. He also invented the Polaroid One Step camera, believe it or not.

As for the best guitarists, every guitarist of the last 20 years must bow down before Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads, without question.
