I consider myself to be a fan of all types of music. Today's country music is way different than the 'I'm so lonesome I could die' crap that our parents might have listened to. Now we have country that isn't always within the lines. Think of all the great "rock"-style country that we have gotten in the past few years. Cross-over material from Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Lonestar, and Dixie Chicks. Some of this music transcends labels.
Anyway, sfk kurt, if you are looking for some rockin' country I would check out Travis Tritt, who has a southern rock style, Tim McGraw and Mark Wills have what I would call a bit of AOR-tinged country. Blackhawk is one of the better country bands out there, but Van Stephenson recently departed the group. Also, Lonestar, Montgomery Gentry, and Shane Minor all have roots in good old fashioned R-N-R.
So for all the nay-sayers out there, just remember that there is a bit of country in plenty of music that we listen to (i.e. Bon Jovi, Poison, Cinderella, Tesla, Bad Company, Mr. Big, Firehouse, Mitch Malloy, etc.). Even Sammy had country legend Roy Rogers playing slide guitar on Little White Lie.
A non-ignorant bastard,
Robert
