I think the thing has gotten blown out of proportion. I know here in Illinois that if 911 is dialed, the cops respond no matter if it was an accident or not (never ever put 911 on the speed dial when you have young children in the house!). But most places in the US they will automatically assume that you are guilty until proven otherwise when it comes to domestic disturbances, especially if you are a man.
