You're comparing ABBA to the Beatles???
ABBA and the Beatles are the 2 greatest pop bands ever.
God, I suppose the Bay City Rollers are right up there too then?
If you can't tell the different in substance between ABBA and BCR - you need help! ABBA were/are pop gods - BCR were the eqivalent of here today, gone tomorrow fluff like New Kids On The Block.
It's very possible that ABBA are the godparents of cheesy hair bands. Certainly Europe (one of the cheesiest) wouldn't have existed without them. But brilliant songwriting?
Wow, you really have it in for ABBA, huh? ABBA was never cheesy and their hair was relatively tame compared to many other bands of the 70's. If Europe took a few cues from ABBA - good for them, it made them a better band. A great song is a great song regardless of genre. You've probably never even heard Europe beyond 'The Final Countdown' anyway, which is the equivalent of not knowing Roth-era Van Halen and judging VH on Hagar alone. Let's just hope your personal gods, Van Halen, come up with something even half as good as ABBA or Europe song-wise. Don't hold your breath!
Next you'll be comparing Michael Bolton to Bob Dylan!
To compare the 2 is ludicrous, but Dylan's greatest contribution to music, 'All Along The Watchtower', only came alive when Hendrix covered it. Dylan writes great lyrics and has written some great songs, but he is a horrid vocalist. So yeah, I guess I'll listen to Michael Bolton, old Bolton anyway, before I expose my ears to the annoying whine of Mr. Zimmerman.
