Mp3 quality??

Hello folks,

Many of you are whiz kids, so I'm sure someone know about this better than a computer illiterate mongoose like yours truly.

Okay, so MP3s have different kbps's right? And the higher it is, the better the quality.....most of them are recorded at 128. My question is, as you keep going higher do they always get better? Meaning, there's some much higher numbers, you can get and MP3 done at 256 kbps or even 3-hundred-something. Is that advisable? Isn't there a point where the sound stalls and just doesn't get any better?

I mean, if 128 is already supposed to be CD-quality, if you do it at 320 or so, are you improving on the quality of the disc or what? Even if the difference is minimal, is it better to go as high as possible when I'm making MP3s for a CDR collection or for a friend or something?

Can anyone explian this? Thanks, mates!

Cheers,
Jack.
