Why the false name to hide the fact that you don`t want to post under your original false name?
You say "You could start by plugging John Halliwell in for a change and by not faking the backing vocals!!"
What a pointless criticism that is. For one, John Halliwell IS plugged in and singing live. TEN simply choose to mix the live vocals with some from backing tapes because it is physically impossible to recreate the vocals from their albums without doing this and they want to give the fans as close a sound to the album as possible. Are you honestly suggesting that this makes them less of a live band? If so, then what are / were QUEENSRYCHE, RUSH, FM, DARE, EUROPE, DEF LEPPARD, QUEEN etc, etc?
You also say "Oh yeah, and when you 'produce' your sales figures don't forget to compare the UK sales against the other territories so we can all see just exactly where this genre is alive and where it is dead."
Well, the initial shipment of "Babylon" in Europe is going to be around 25,000 copies, with 2,500 in the UK. We expect to reach around 4,000 sales in the UK in the end.
Let`s see if any other bands in this genre are sellingg anything like that amount in the UK. I seriously doubt it, so where the "missed the boat" nonsense that someone posted earlier comes from I really don`t know.
Isn`t it about time that the internet was used for something positive rather than a bunch of anoraks slagging off something because it doesn`t sound like `their` particular pet like.
This site is in existence because of Andrew`s love of Melodic Rock. As such the site is all about that particular genre. I`m pretty sure that his intention is for that genre of music to be promoted in a positive fashion. I`m not saying that evreyone should blindly buy and love every album within the genre, of course that would be useless as well. But, why do a select few, such as ingo and gav post so irregularly and when they do it is negative. I wouldn`t mind but their criticisms are so wildly inaccurate and juvenile that they must be the work of pretty slow minds. To say that TEN have missed the boat when they are clearly the most sucessful band on any of the indies and to say that you want `real` bands like STEELHOUSE LANE, who are clearly a studio project with no more originality than TEN anyway. Please don`t tell me that the opening track on their album is anything other than a blatant steal from half a dozen different GIANT songs. By the way, I love the band, but to say they are doing anything other than rehashing old ideas is plain silly.
And also, as my partner Bruce rightly states, before anyone comes on here saying that I or he shouldn`t come up here and get involved, that is bullshit. I`m as big a fan as anyone else, more so than most, so I have a right to say what I think. I also have a vested interest. If I came into anyone else`s place of work and slagged them off inaccurately ( even if it was MY opinion ) then they would be well within their rights to defend themselves. As such, it is within my rights to defend myself. It is also because both myself and Bruce care so much about what we are doing that we DO get involved in these arguments.
Bye for now,
Mark
