Latin MTV

Hi Tinger,
Well, I don't know if there is an MTV Spain, maybe that's what you got. The one I've watched is MTV Latino, which is the one they have here in Mexico, and is the one they show in Argentina, Colombia, etc....I don't really see it anymore because I know have a pirated signal (arg!) of the American DirecTV and I unsubscribed to the service that has Latin MTV.
But to answer your question - no, to my knowledge, they have never played Rafa Martin or La Fase. They're unknowns, at least in Mexico. Kind of like if you ask someone in the US about Brett Walker, I guess. However, if a version of MTV Spain exists, then maybe Rafa Martin does get some airplay....after all, his new single "Cuando Llegue A Volar" cracked the Top 40 over there. But you won't hear him on MTV Latino.
The most popular Spanish-language bands that get played on MTV Latino have a different kind of rock style, like Maldita Vecindad which is kind of a fusion with folk elements. However, Heroes del Silencio is very well-known here, so it's not strange to hear that they were on. Heroes lead singer Enrique Bunbury was here a short while ago doing some high profile promoting for his new solo disc (his interviews came out n the papers and all).....I think the Heroes broke up. They have song very good songs and some other stuff which is weird. Coda actually has some fame here....people who know their rock are familiar with them, and they apparently had a fairly good run, so I'm sure they were played at some point although I never caught their videos.
A band that is wildly popular, maybe the most popular Mexican rock band, is ManĂ¡.....which does have varying degrees of AOR in their stuff, sometimes total AOR. They do get played on MTV Latino. Miguel Mateos is also known by everybody, but not as hip as Mana anymore....considered more of an 80s rocker.
These bands all have good stuff to contribute, but for my money, you can't beat Rafa Martin with a stick.
Cheers,
Jack.
