Well, I honestly think that he always writes great albums. If you compare "Rising Force" (mostly instrumental neoclassical) with "Odyssey" (mostly hard rock) with "Facing the ANimal" (much LESS neoclassical, heavier stuff), you will see that they are all completely different albums
One thing actually that I love about Yngwie is that he can write a wide variety of music, from great instrumentals, to blindingly fast metal songs, to beautiful ballads
As for his solos, I will agree that they tend to sound similar but I think he has evolved from a soloist to a full-fledged songwriter
Just check out the "odyssey" album...any song on there could have been a hard rock hit!
I feel he's one of the greatest songwriters in the past two decades
