Bruce, the label you are involved with has just brought out the latest in a long line of mags, and in the process forced another to close.
I agree with you totally with what you say, but for you to say it has to be slightly contradictory.
I am of the opinion that AOR/MHR is an underground genre and will be so until a band can break into one of the major labels, Ten may do it, but it is doubtful. Damned nation may do it, but once again it is doubtful. What this music really needed was Bon Jovi's last album to be a rocker (instead of the ballad ridden heap of crap it really was) this could have kickstarted the majors into looking around for a younger band.
Back to the magazine question, Raging Heart was plodding along quietly (never making a profit i should imagine) gaining in stature until, your label decided to bring a mag onto the market. How is a small independent mag supposed to run alongside a label financed mag???? answer, it can't.
Some things are done for love, not profit. I imagine R H was a love thing, done for enjoyment as much as money.
So don't bleat about the market being flooded, because you are as resposible as anyone for it.
Or is this a ploy to get your publication some badly needed publicity????
There are some very good mags around (and some really awful shit) they are the one's who need the backing, if a football (soccer) team wasn't doing too well, then a town wouldn't start another to get the cup. It splits loyalty/readership, so instead of pumping N&T's hard earned money into a magazine try backing an established mag (yes I know you pay for ad's and things) but there are better causes then money in this world.
If you want to do it, do it because you love the genre, not for a quick buck.
And by the way MHR mag was a fucking joke too.
Yours spitefully
Pete disillusioned and annoyed.
