And the attitude of the UK is amusing, when you bear in mind how small the UK market is compared to say Germany! Someone, who shall remain nameless, told me that if a band with the vision of a Queen came along now the UK industry would not touch them under any circumstance.
The UK industry seems to have reverted to the days of tin-pan alley production lines and songs, which mean greater profit margins, after all,it makes sense to make a £100,000 video that will be seen on every UK tv station to push a Billie, as opposed to £150,000 putting a rock band on the road with little likelihood of an, and this is the key, instant return.
Additionally, it is easier to manipulate and control a gaggle of 16 year olds, than it is a group of musicians in their late 20's or early 30's who have learnt their craft, and know what they want to do.
Classic Rock is a glimmer in the darkness, bringing people back into the scene who dropped out when Kerrang and Metal Hammer sold out. It is a slow process, but it is working.
