Well Steve, Stratovarius play a neoclassical style of metal influenced by Malmsteen. Their sound hasn't altered much over time, at least until after Episode playing a brand of highly melodic speed metal. Since after Episode the band has slowed the pace somwhat. The guitarist and brains behind the band Timo Tolkki stated that Destiny(though a good album) was released at a genuinely depressing stage of his life, thus the sombre mood. The latest album Infinite has him in excellent spirits and many songs have a Queen like influence. Personal favourite albums(and general consensus with friends) are EPISODE, the earlier DREAMSCAPE and the latest album.
