A UK perspective

This is where the problem lies.

It's all very well buying albums direct from the labels or from online/mail order 'specialist' retailers but these retailers are not recognised by the compilers of the official UK charts. So although the labels make more profit and attract sales from their core target market, ultimately the sales count for NOTHING in the eyes of the media. It's as if the sales haven't happened. Therefore there is no exposure given to the artists.

Small labels have their function in keeping the scene alive but at the end of the day we NEED the major labels to be able to get the albums into the CORRECT outlets and be proud of the artists in order for them to promote them properly. And I'm not talking about 80's acts rising phoenix like from the ashes here.

We need new blood.
