Hey now!

I find it interesting to read both Tony's and your post and how different you see things. Personally, I think Tony has a much better grasp on reality as it pertains to music, and not only the business end of it. I'm sorry but if you as a musician cannot acknowledge the songwriting genius of Kurt Cobain - love him or hate him (and yes, he was no role model, which is probably why so many kids gravitated to him...) - on 'Nevermind' then you're not getting something very important. 'Teen Spirit', 'Come As You Are', and a couple more were/are amazing songs! They are classics that will or already have stood the test of time. One thing you don't seem to want to understand is that being able to play every EddieVH solo note for note and being a bad ass guitar god really means jack @!#$ in the end! All it proves is that you had the patience to sit down and practice a lot - that's it! Being a talented musician involves so much more - being able to write great songs for starters, but also being able to convey originality and touch people on a deep level. That's what all those bands - Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam - that you claim have 0 talent did, like it or not. I guess, Matt Cameron is a suck ass drummer, which would explain why Geddy Lee hired him for his solo album. And yes, the Seattle scene spawned many copycats but not nearly as many as Bon Jovi and Def Leppard did in the 80's - the reason why grunge - ANYTHING with an edge! - needed to happen in the first place. As for the band Live - 'Throwing Copper' is one of the best records of the 90's! Have you ever sat down and REALLY listened to these guys? Have you written a song as cool as 'Lightning Crashes' or 'Selling The Drama'? And Green Day and The Offspring are no less juvenile/dumb than Poison or Warrant (great players there - NOT!) were - and they look a lot less stupid! And when you bag on the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl - you're really picking on the wrong band! Would Brian May bother to record a song with them or Tony Iommi invite Dave to drum and sing on his album if he was as horrible as you claim? Listen to 'Goodbye Lament' on Iommi's album and tell me that's a shitty vocal track. It's brilliant! I could go on and on...

In closing, I'd like to say that it is refreshing to see someone like Tony who made his name in the 80's, someone who, in theory, has every reason to be bitter because grunge/alt took his career down a couple of notches, give an honest assessment and put the 'blame' where it belongs. I think a lot of other musicians from that era are still in denial about a lot of things and cannot acknowledge that even though they had superior chops, better hair, and possibly more fun - they were ultimately part of something pretty shallow, namely the soundtrack of the Reagan years. Not that I'd ever want to miss the good stuff from that era - TNT included - but it's over now, it has been for over ten years, and to pretend otherwise and damn everything new to hell because it could never be as good as the old is just silly - and pointless. Beating a dead horse back to life ain't gonna happen.
