We'll see what happens when the new Journey CD stiffs....mark my words...Journey's record sales weren't huge before Steve Perry and won't be after either....same with Dennis DeYoung in Styx...Bobby Kimball in TOTO...ect. ect. when will these guys learn?
of course, that was what was said when Peter Gabriel left Genesis to be replaced by the drummer of the band--some unknown named Phil Collins. Or when Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth in Van Halen. It HAS happened before that a band can change lead singers and continue on. well......we shall see soon what happens come September. I've seen them 3 times with Augeri and they blew Foreigner off the stage and the buzz on Kevin Shirley's (producer of the new cd) website is very positive. The majority has accepted Augeri on vocals live--now comes the true test which really depends on the strength of the material. Comparing Perry's solo stuff and the Journey cds, it is pretty obvious that he was not solely responsible for the "classic" Escape/Frontiers Journey sound--if truth be told, Jon Cain probably has that more than anybody.
and my humble list.......in unarranged order.....
Good list...except I don't have Eye Of The Storm..gotta get it..I love the first Storm album......
2nd one is a lot better, IMO. The s/t cd had some killers on it, but some of the rest were hit and miss, while the EOTS cd is solid throughout. They did manage to sound more like Journey on the 2nd cd though.... Check Kevin Chalfant's site, www.cliquerecords.com, for some sound clips of EOTS (and the rest of his work).
