Phil,
I am a little reluctant to post to this thread 'cuz I keep shooting myself in the foot with the history of Journey. So far, I've forgotten 'Departure' and placed 'Stone in Love' on the record when I was thinking of 'Where Were You'.
Anyway, the point I was trying to make in a somewhat incoherent sense was that somehow, the focus in the music business shifted from good music that featured solid musicianship and writing to a grunge sound that now has spawned the alternative movement (which quite frankly has even devolved into cross-over alternative-rap). How can any fan of music--true musicianship---explain the appeal of garbage music that eminates from the Bizkits and Korns of the world?(Yeah, I realize this may be somewhat controversial, but what the hell).
Point was that groups like Kansas are relegated to playing ribfests and county fairs. I doubt that they've dried up as musicians or as writers, it's just that they are not marketed that well.

I see Boston's next effort suffering the same fate. Will anyone pick them up? Will radio even play it? Here in my town, the rock giant of a radio station has played zilch of Journey's new record. I'd have never known Kansas had a record out. Styx's last effort was shunned here as well. (Maybe that was for the best without DeYoung)

Now I am getting the Chili Peppers instead.

When did I become a geezer who is out of touch?

I hear McCartney has a NEW record coming in September and that The Who have begun work on a new record. Wonder if they'll get any play. I just think that thanks to record companies and MTV, the kids have been force-fed music which is inferior. Few musicians (Dave Matthews?) can break through.
