I think Paul is certainly talented - 'Heartbreak' and 'Only Child' are good albums - but he's not ALL THAT! Not to diss the guy, but his semi-legendary status had/has a lot to do with the hype he used to get from the British press, i.e. Kerrang! when guys like Derek Oliver worshipped practically every two-bit AOR act on the block. Liking Sabu become the cool thing to do - it meant that you were 'in the know'. Konnoisseurs and writers like Oliver or Kelv Hellrazor from Metal Forces always had a penchant for elevating obscure acts and artists, rooting for the underdog - sometimes deservedly so because many lesser known guys/acts were/are more talented than some of the big names in the biz. In the case of Sabu, they probably overdid it a bit, which was easy to do because Paul never had a huge record and was stuck in indie land even in the 80's when the majority of AOR/melodic rock acts were on major labels.
