Actually, I try to refrain from slagging them off out of context. You already know my opinion on Journey. A half decent AOR band who were (IMHO) not nearly as good compared to other lesser known lights as the ratio of their sales to those other bands' would suggest. There are too many drippy ballads. There are too many dull songs with little variation within them. "Stone in Love" is a great tune though. "Natural Thing" does it for me as well (is that the title of that song?). That bloke's voice kind of annoys me after a while too. But this is all personal opinion and therefore not worth bugger all, especially since it's my opinion and I spent most of today listening to the Moog Cookbook. Perhaps in objecting to the original "Buy the CD because it's AOR not because it's good" thread, I overdid my thoughts on Journey's quality. Though looking back I only made 2 adverse comments ; 1) They are has beens. I believe by objective measures this is a matter of fact not opinion. I also believe most of their fans would believe Escape / Frontiers to be superior albums to the latest ones. To validate that theorem one would have to include those fans who no longer follow them or are even aware they still exist, not just those round here who are by definition more hardened / ardent. 2) They have promised to rock hard and failed to deliver. This is one of the more enduring aspects of Journey. Neal Schon always, for reasons best known to himself, promises more rock next time. I don't believe it has happened yet.
I don't slag Journey off at every opportunity, rather it is perhaps to their credit that they are a byword for AOR, so when I want to say "this scene is stagnant", I say "Everybody's waiting for a new Journey album - hat does that say about the scene". Apologies for my irritating and pompous ways.
